  32. Doing work for Public Access is an excellent way to build experience...you 
  33. get to learn some hard lessons about what works and what doesn't work on 
  34. TV...and you don't have to worry about pissing off a client if you make a 
  35. mistake because chances are, you'll be the only one who notices a mistake!

  37. I produced a Public Access TV show in Southern CT for 2 years and did 
  38. many station IDs and animations for other shows on the channel...it was 
  39. really a great experience and a lot of fun...the show I produced was a 
  40. very irreverent comedy show, sorta like Howard Stern on acid, and after 
  41. the first year we really pulled out all the stops, mixing a lot of 3D 
  42. animations & stills with chroma-keyed live hosts and guests.  The show 
  43. had an unbelievable schedule and we knocked out more than 80 shows in a 
  44. little less than 2 years.

  46. The only "problem" with doing Public Access is that once you get into it, 
  47. it's tough to get out...if you're not careful, you'll find yourself doing 
  48. obscene amounts of work for little or no money and before you know it, 
  49. two years will have gone by!  This is what happened to me and I eventually 
  50. had to move out of the area because I wasn't generating any income...it's 
  51. taken me a little over a year to get back into a mindset where I feel 
  52. comfortable charging a decent fee for my work, if I had any.  =(
